The Hempfield Spartan Marching Band is on a "busman's holiday."
Leaving this morning from Greater Pittsburgh International Airport for Orlando, Florida, the 180-person contingent will combine performances at a by-invitation only "adjudgment" or competition evaluated by professional musicians; will march in a parade in "Disney World" and combine talents with a Georgia group for a concert—in addition to having a lot of fun.
Jack Irwin, band director, accompanied the group which includes the symphonic and concert bands which combine for a marching unit; colorguard and majorette squad, in addition to several parent chaperones.
Fund raising activities throughout the year raised money for the trip. They will return home Monday.
