Jack H. Irwin, who has been serving as band director in the Jeannette School District for the past year, has been named to a similar position in the Hempfield Area School District.
Irwin will replace Thomas McKenna, who resigned earlier this month to continue his education in the music field. He was selected from among 12 applicants interviewed by the Hempfield School Board.
At Hempfield Irwin will receive a base salary of $7,600, a $600 supplement for band director and supervisor of instrumental music plus an additional $200 for the orchestra.
Irwin's salary at Jeannette last year was $7,150 total, but under normal increment would have gone up to $7,825 the next term.
Irwin, 40, a native of Jeannette, has been teaching music for about 12 years. Before coming to Jeannette to succeed John M. Lodzsun, he taught at high schools in Oklahoma and New Mexico.
A graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Irwin resides on N. 3rd St. Extension, with his wife, Judy, and three children, Dee Ann, Cathy Sut and Jack Jr.
