DISPLAY TROPHIES - The second annual Hempfield Area High School Marching Band festival will be held in the Hempfield Stadium Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The rain date is Nov. 6. Hempfield band field conductors (l-r) Ellen Momeyer, Melanie Harter and Dee Irwin, display the trophies which will be awarded to each participating band.
Invitations have been extended to all local bands. Bands who have accepted include Norwin High School, directed by Lawrence Radzewick; Penn High School, directed by Stephen Bench; Franklin Regional High School, directed by Thomas Flemming; Yough High School, directed by Joseph Buncie; Trafford High School, directed by Kathleen Berk: Connellsville High School, directed by Ronald Scott. Hempfield band is under the direction of Jack Irwin.
Each participating band will demonstrate exhibitions of an eight minute program and at the end of the entire program all the bands will return to the field for a retreat parade and the awarding of trophies by Kenneth Ruoff.
New bands in the festival this year are Jefferson Morgan High School, Jefferson, Pa.; Mapletown Band and McGuffey High School Band, from Claysville, Pa. Their respective band directors are Bernard Kowalsky, Frank Yucic and Robert Jarvis.
The festival is non-competitive and all bands will receive the same size trophies in appreciation of their attendance.
