The Seventh Annual Hempfield Marching Festival of Champions

LOTS OF PRIDE - With the Seventh Annual Hempfield Marching Festival of Champions Marching Band Competition fast approaching, these three members of the Hempfield Area band gather with pride around their past trophies. They are (left to right) Jane Muchoney, majorette captain; June Melichar, drum captain, and Danielle Hall, rifle captain. The annual competition will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, at 1:30 p.m., with the following bands participating: Jeannette, Penn-Trafford, Yough, Greensburg-Salem, Baldwin-Whitehall, Ridgeway, Derry Area, Wimber, Martinsburg, Johnsonburg, and Marlington, Ohio. Each band must compete with seven minutes minimum and eleven minutes maximum. They will start with 100 points and points will be taken off for every mistake. The Hempfield host band and West Virginia University bands will be in exhibition. The Hempfield band is under the direction of Jack Irwin who is assisted by Roderick Booker. Tickets for the Nov. 6 event are available from band members, band parents, and may be purchased at the gate.
